Driver / Motorcycle Mechanic

Description Hello Group is seeking to appoint a skilled, professional, and service-driven Driver / Motorcycle Mechanic to support the operational success of our Hello Rides business. The successful candidate will be responsible for inspecting, servicing, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining motorcycles and delivery bikes to ensure optimal performance, safety, reliability, and compliance with company standards.

This role requires a hands-on individual who is both mechanically skilled and capable of operating company vehicles and trailers safely while supporting operational requirements across various locations. A critical part in maintaining the operational readiness of the Hello Rides fleet by conducting preventative maintenance, fault diagnosis, repair work, quality inspections, and mechanical troubleshooting, while minimising vehicle downtime and ensuring a consistently high standard of fleet performance.

Duties and Responsibilities Maintenance and Repairs

• Conduct routine servicing and preventative maintenance on motorcycles and delivery bikes.

• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and performance-related faults.

• Replace worn or defective components, including brakes, chains, tyres, batteries, suspension systems, and engine components.

• Perform safety inspections and roadworthiness checks.

• Test motorcycles/bikes following repairs to ensure quality workmanship and safe operation.

• Ensure all maintenance work complies with company standards and manufacturer specifications.

Fleet Management Support

• Transport motorcycles, bikes, equipment, and parts between operational sites when required.

• Load, secure, and transport motorcycles using trailers in a safe and compliant manner.

• Conduct vehicle and trailer inspections before and after trips.

• Assist with breakdown recovery and roadside support where necessary.

• Ensure company vehicles are maintained, clean, and roadworthy at all times.

Safety and Compliance

• Ensure all repairs and maintenance work meet manufacturer specifications and company standards.

• Adhere to Occupational Health and Safety requirements at all times.

• Maintain a clean, safe, and organised workshop environment.

• Use workshop tools and equipment safely and correctly.

Operational Support

• Conduct pre-delivery inspections on motorcycles/bikes before deployment.

• Assist with breakdown assessments and emergency repairs when required.

• Support the warehouse and operations teams with fleet readiness initiatives.

• Assist in stock control and management of workshop parts and consumables.

Continuous Improvement

• Stay updated on motorcycle maintenance techniques, tools, and technologies.

• Recommend process improvements to enhance fleet reliability and operational efficiency.

Travel Requirements

• Travel between sites, warehouses, suppliers, and operational locations as required.

• Be available for occasional overnight travel and extended driving assignments when operationally necessary.

Minimum Requirements

SKILL REQUIREMENTS / PERSONAL COMPETENCIES

• Strong motorcycle maintenance and repair skills.

• Knowledge of motorcycle engines, transmissions, braking systems, suspension systems, and electrical systems.

• Ability to diagnose faults and implement effective repair solutions.

• Safety-conscious approach to work.

• Ability to prioritise workloads and manage multiple tasks.

• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent qualification.

• Relevant technical or mechanical certification will be advantageous.

• Minimum 2 years' driving experience in a fleet, logistics, transport, or operational environment.

• Valid South African Driver's Licence: Code B, Code 10 or Code EB (Trailer Licence) will be advantageous

• Experience Loading, towing, and positioning trailers carrying motorcycles or equipment.

• Experience conducting vehicle inspections and basic vehicle maintenance will be advantageous.

• Experience working in a workshop, fleet environment, or motorcycle (Bikes) dealership will be advantageous.

• Proven experience diagnosing and resolving mechanical and electrical faults.
